Rectovaginal and Vesicovaginal fistula repair
Rectovaginal and vesicovaginal fistulas are abnormal communications developed between respective organs, most often as consequence of previous surgery, cancer or inflammation. Common signs are loss of stool through the vagina and loss of urine, respectively.
Since the anatomical landmarks are compromised, the reconstruction method may be variable and it depends on the operator skills. There is an extensive judgment to be made regarding the timing of intervention, the location of fistula, the previous surgery type, the route of accessing the fistula and the risk of recurrence. Eventually a fully detailed plan needs to be elaborated with the patient to cover the prognosis for recovery.
Whether a patient has been diagnosed before or suspects such a problem due to aforementioned symptoms, we encourage her to take advantage of our practitioner’s combined gynecologic-general surgery expertise in finding the most feasible and definitive cure for this unpleasant situation.
