Labor and delivery care

Intrapartum continuous monitoring

Intrapartum continuous monitoring follows the fetal heart beat variations throughout the labor. The pattern can be recorded on a scale and interpreted against the uterine contractions. With intact membranes the tracing can be picked up by external sensors and after amniotic membranes rupture, intrauterine sensors can be placed. Should either the labor become ineffective or the fetus express signs of distress, various interventions are required.
