Top expert assisted emergent vaginal deliveries by forceps or vacuum application

Assisted vaginal deliveries are very useful maneuvers to expedite childbirth in some circumstances like: imminent fetal distress, maternal exhaustion or to decrease maternal birthing efforts (e.g. cardiac disease). The forceps is composed of two metallic blades that lock over the lateral sides of baby’s head while the handle provide mechanical traction. The vacuum is applied on top of baby’s head and provides suction traction. The risks associated with foreign body application on the fetal head during the process are various and beyond the scope of this bulletin, but in experienced hands the maneuver is irreplaceable and can save your baby’s life.
