Perineal reconstruction

Perineal reconstruction refers to conditions related with the integrity of pelvic floor muscles. In extreme circumstances most often as a consequence of birth trauma, the damage is so severe that the vaginal introitus and the anus form a single orifice (“cloacal defect”). However in general the defect is less extensive but can equally affect the fecal continence function and the sexual satisfaction. The role of perineal reconstruction is to restore the natural anatomy and resize the perineal orifices to original pre-birth dimensions.

Again we emphasize on the reconstructive surgery technique accuracy, since for each defect there is more than one procedure available. The imagination and experience in combining them and in conveying the big picture in an understandable manner, makes all the difference on the later patient satisfaction.
