Colpoclesis refers to an obliteration of the vagina in severe cases of uterine prolapse when the surgical and anesthetic risk is very high. Essentially sexual intercourse becomes impossible, so the procedure addresses to geriatric population as palliation.
We specialize in minimally invasive surgery and our skilled provider may execute a full vaginal or laparoscopic hysterectomy with adequate suspension of the vault in about the same amount of time as required for colpoclesis. However if a thorough assessment of local conditions (very large defects) or general illnesses (severe cardiac disease) indicates the colpoclesis, both LeFort and total colpoclesis are available at our center.
