Hysterosalpingogram

Hysterosalpingogram is a radiologic exploration performed without or with regional anesthesia through which the uterus is filled with contrast and sequential pictures are taken to observe the shape of the uterus, possible filling defects and most important the fallopian tubes. Should the tubes present an obstacle, the radiopaque dye will not travel freely into the abdominal cavity and the diagnosis of tubal infertility is made, requiring specific intervention. Certain antibiotics may be necessary before and after the procedure to protect from infections.
